OLYMPIC hopefuls turned out in force at the Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre to show their support for the new Gold Challenge initiative.
The aim of the project is to get more people into sports in the run-up to the Olympics, and make the most of its legacy. It also challenges individuals and teams to take part in multiple Olympic and Paralympic sports, while raising money for charity.
Displaying some of the sports sessions available in Camden, visitors got the chance to try wheelchair basketball, fencing, weightlifting and trampolining at the Adelaide Road centre.
Councillor Tulip Siddiq, Camden Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Sport, said: “The Gold Challenge is a truly remarkable initiative, inspiring people to take part in sports while also helping to raise money for charity.
“The project goes hand in hand with Camden’s commitment to get more of our communities involved in physical activities. We have launched three sporting legacy projects to do this – Camden Sports Academy, School and Community Games, and Pro-Active Ambassadors – which will ensure our residents truly benefit from the sporting opportunities from the Olympics.”
