Mains event – Crouch Hill road floods

Fountain of water from the street

FIRST there were snowfalls... then this fountain of water.
The 15-foot jet of water was captured on film by writer-broadcaster Alex Pascall when a mains burst close to his home in Crouch Hill, Stroud Green. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” Mr Pascall said this week. “Water was actually shooting out of the ground. “The fire brigade were called but fortunately none of the nearby homes were flooded.”
Mr Pascall said that Crouch Hill and nearby Warltersville Road frequently had burst pipes, being close to two large water mains.
“On top of that they are always digging up the road,” he added.
A spokesman for Thames Water explained that the cold weather had increased the number of burst mains in London from 200 a month to 400.
“We are dealing with each burst as quickly as we can,” the spokesman added.
