IF table football in the college café took precedence over your studies at the expense of your grades, then Café Kick is the place for you.
It’s a shrine to the game which kept generations of fun-loving students out of lecture rooms and libraries.
“A lot of our customers do seem to be ex-students who want to re-live their youth,” said proprietor Garath Kerr, himself a table footie afficionado.
Europhile Garath couldn’t understand why there were no Continental-style cafés in Britain when Brits returning from holidays abroad enthused about them so much.
So in 1998 he kicked off Café Kick in Exmouth Market,
which serves bargain Continental cuisine, coffees and drinks – and houses three magnificent table football tables in the style favoured by the Spanish, Italians and French.
As well as college layabouts, the joint appeals to homesick Europeans and “people who like to feel they’re on holiday,” said Garath.
