THE top boss of the National Health Service in Islington has quit.
Rachel Tyndall has taken a new job leading a cancer care programme for the capital’s health authority, NHS London.
She said: “It will be a challenging role, but one that will result in London having some of the best cancer service in the world.”
Ms Tyndall was chief executive of NHS Islington during the row over the planned closure of Finsbury Health Centre, before heading up the newly formed North Central London (NCL) sector trust in July 2009 on a £145,000 salary. She clashed with patients and NHS staff over proposals to close Whittington Hospital’s A&E emerged in December 2009.
NCL is recruiting a replacement and will make a decision in January 2011.
