Plans by Cancer Research UK to sell alcohol at their new Angel headquarters were approved yesterday (Thursday) with conditions. Drink will not be made available outside the premises and sales and consumption will have to stop at 11pm rather than midnight, according Islington Licensing Committee.
The charity has taken over two-and-a-half floors of the new Angel building (formerly BT headquarters) in St John Street. It applied to the Town Hall for permission to sell alcohol when weekday fundraising events are staged at the building.
Freelance music critic Michael Church, who lives in Chadwell Street, less than 40 metres from the building, said he was pleased with the outcome. “It sounds like the committee has listened to the residents,” he added. “We don’t think there should be any problems.”
