COUNCILLORS dug deep to shovel earth at a tree-planting event in Queen’s Park.
Despite freezing weather last week, councillors Patricia McAllister and Barrie Taylor helped make part of the Mozart estate green in aid of National Tree Week.
The scheme is part of a wider “greening project” run by CityWest Homes that is taking place throughout the Queen’s Park and Mozart estates. Other highlights include a grow-your-own fruit and veg scheme being run on a piece of land on the Mozart estate. The trees were paid for by CityWest.
Barry Montgomerie, senior area manager for the Queen’s Park and Mozart estates, said: “Our residents have told us that they’d like more green projects in the area and so we have been working hard to achieve this.
“It’s really pleasing to see the project take effect – the cherry trees that were planted will look lovely in the spring when they start to blossom, making a real visual difference to the area.”
