Who doesn’t need an Oyster card to ride the tube and won’t read the newspaper over your shoulder? Answer: the Littlest Hobo of the Northern Line.
Staff at Mornington Crescent station couldn’t believe their eyes when an ownerless puppy came bounding up the stairs on Friday morning.
A man told staff the canine commuter – a Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross – had accompanied him and his girlfriend down the escalator at Kentish Town station, two stops further up the line.
Craig Hohaia, who was on his way to work at Wunderman advertising agency in Mornington Crescent said: “It was really random. The dog came down the escalator with us and waited on the platform. I assumed it belonged to someone nearby on the platform. It waited and didn’t get on the Bank train and then came on to the Charing Cross train. It was really friendly, and then I just shouted out: ‘Is this anyone’s dog?’ and it became clear it wasn’t.
“I got worried about it travelling the Tube because I just thought it would get off anywhere so I took off my belt and used it as a lead. I took it to work with me because Tube staff said they would have to close the station if they looked after it. Then I rang the council. He was at work with me for about two hours.”
Luckily for its owners, the pet was chipped and dog handlers at Camden Council were able to take him home. It appears the family have recently moved house and the dog was used to travelling on the Tube with them from Kentish Town.
