Light duties for EastEnders actor Larry Lamb at Islington Green
Published: 26th November, 2010
THE Christmas lights go on all over Islington this weekend with street parties, concerts and celebrities presiding over the festivities.
The fun begins at Archway this evening (Friday) at 5pm as Mayor of Islington Mouna Hamitouche flicks the switch.
There will be body-popping street dance performances, Christmas carols, mince pies and mulled wine.
EastEnders actor Larry Lamb does the honours at Islington Green on Saturday at 4.30pm – accompanied by similar celebrations.
Labour councillor Martin Klute and his jazz quartet provide the musical entertainment between 4pm and 6pm.
An appearance by a mystery celebrity is promised at the event at the Nag’s Head, Holloway at 4.15pm Sunday.
Finally – and controversially – Labour Mayor Mouna Hamitouche will switch on the lights at Highbury Barn on Wednesday at 5pm.
Liberal Democrat council opposition group leader Terry Stacy wanted BBC political correspondent Nick Robinson to preside but was over-ruled by the Labour-run authority.
He then pulled out of his role in helping to organise the event.
