Labour Party boss Ray Collins accepts peerage

LABOUR Party general secretary Ray Collins, from Islington, is to take a seat in the House of Lords.

Mr Collins is a staunch member of his local Islington South and Finsbury branch and the party’s top official.

He was one of 10 new peers nominated by the Labour Party for the latest Lords intake.

Also nominated for a Labour peerage was Dr Maurice Glasman, director of the Faith and Citizenship Programme at London Metropolitan University in Holloway.

In his role as director of the programme, he researches and publishes academic works on the relationship between religious faith and politics.

He is also author of the book, Unnecessary Suffering: Management, Markets and the Liquidation of Solidarity.
