HIGH-FLYING students have earned drum kits and dance costumes for their secondary schools.
Pupils nominated for the Jack Petchey School achievement awards by teachers and classmates scored the special contributions as part of the annual prize scheme.
Winners get £200 to improve their schools in an area of their choice.
At a ceremony held at the Camden Centre in King’s Cross on Thursday, 58 pupils were presented with medallions and certificates.
Maria Fidelis school’s gospel choir and vocalists from Camden School for Girls laid on a programme of entertainment.
Among the winners were, Courtney Lewis-Greaves, 14, of Maria Fidelis in Euston, who won her award for singing and mentoring younger students.
The Jack Petchey Foundation has provided £15,600 a year to schools in this way since 2004, as well as funding Camden’s youth clubs to the tune of £658,000 a year.
Camden education supremo Councillor Heather Johnson said: “The foundation gives fabulous support to young people, without which they wouldn’t be recognised for their achievements.
