CHRISTIANS are joining forces with police to stage a talent show in a bid to steer young people away from gangs.
Newcourt Christian Centre in Finsbury Park is teaming up with an officer from the local Safer Neighbourhoods police team to stage the event tomorrow (Saturday).
Eleven young hopefuls will be singing, rapping, dancing and acting in the show at the centre in Regina Road, organised jointly with police community support officer Michael Owusu.
PCSO Owusu said: “We want people who might otherwise be smoking drugs or hanging around carrying knives to come along and see that there are other things they can do – constructive things.”
One of the entries will be a play about gangs, the damage they can wreak in young people’s lives, and possible alternatives.
The event has been staged annually for five years, attracting 100 people last year.
