A NEW privately funded theatre is planned for Finsbury Park – and one of its first productions will be based on the life stories of people living in the area.
The 200-seat Park Theatre will be built in what is now a disused office block by the Wells Terrace exit of the tube station, and the curtain is due to rise in 2012.
Actors are being recruited to scout the area looking for tales from local people to turn into N4 Stories.
“It will take its inspiration directly from real-life characters in Finsbury Park,” said spokeswoman Nouska Hanley.
Funding for the theatre will come from sales of five luxury apartments also being built on the site.
With 30 per cent cuts in Arts Council cash, the Park Theatre project opted for private funding. Ms Hanley added: “This theatre represents an inspiring example for the arts to tackle the current economic crisis – with optimism, tenacity and creativity.”
