Robert David Tyler charged with murder of mother-of-five Julie McKinley
THE partner of a woman found strangled at her Finsbury Park home on New Year’s Eve has been charged with murder.
Robert David Tyler, 46, appeared at Haringey Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with the murder of mother-of-five Julie McKinley, 40, who was found unconscious at her Stroud Green Road flat by police just after 6am on December 31.
She was taken to Whittington Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
It is believed four of Ms McKinley’s children, three girls aged eight, six and four and her 22-month-old son, were at home at the time.
A post-mortem examination carried out on New Year’s Day at Hornsey Mortuary gave the cause of death as strangulation.
Mr Tyler has been remanded in custody and will appear at the Old Bailey on January 18.
A tribute page has been set up on social networking site Facebook, where friends of Ms McKinley and fellow parents have left messages.
Page creator Alison Morissey described Ms McKinley as “a lovely woman” who had four young children, a 21-year-old daughter and was grandmother to a two-year-old child.
She asked: “Why kill someone who was harmless to everyone?”
Another, Linda Kevitt, wrote: “RIP Julie xXx. Every time I think of you I have the A Team song running round in my head... You were so full of life that it’s hard to believe you’re gone, but you made such an impression on everyone you met. You will never be forgotten.
“I hope in heaven you find great shoes, a good hair dye and nice music. Miss you honey. God bless you and all you loved.”
An incident room has been opened in Hendon under Detective Inspector Colette Smyth from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command.
