A NEW Journal reporter and her father have run one of the world’s toughest marathons raising thousands of pounds for children’s charities.

Journalist Josie Hinton, from Primrose Hill, and her father Andy crossed the finish line in Athens, Greece, on Sunday. Josie’s time was three hours 36 minutes and Andy ran it in four hours 28 minutes.

They raised more than £23,000 in sponsorship. after completing the course around the Greek hillside leading to the track inside the Olympic Stadium – the route which, legend has it, Pheidippides took to declare victory in the battle of Marathon.

Among the charities that will benefit are Unicef and the Impetus Trust based in Euston.

A delegation of runners, including Josie and Andy, was set up by Campbell Lutyens, the private equity firm which challenged businesses to mark the 2,500th anniversary of the Athens marathon with a massive fund-raising drive.

Josie said: “It was great fun but by far the most pain I have ever put my body through. I’m very proud and very stiff. Hat’s off to my dad for tackling his first and, he assures me, his last marathon at 58.”
