Show goes on at Queen's Theatre! Pensioners back for free Les Miserables performance after blackout -
PENSIONERS enjoyed a second council-sponsored visit to the theatre this week after their first trip was cancelled because of a power cut.
A blackout at the Queen’s Theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue last November meant the performance of Les Miserables did not take place, leaving the 500 pensioners waiting in the cold.
But despite snowy conditions they got another chance to watch London’s longest running musical.
Producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh offered replacement tickets to the group, who had taken advantage of a council offer to see the show for free.
Audience member Mary Angley, from Pimlico, said: “Trips like these really are a great thing for us older residents. We were determined to make it regardless of the weather.”
Her fellow theatre-goer, Molly Richards, 82, from Victoria, thanked the organisers.
“The performance was so good I was in tears,” she said.
