Camden New Journal Hamper Appeal 2010!
Help to lift festive gloom
Published: 14 October, 2010
AS the nights draw in, our thoughts inevitably turn towards the season of Christmas cheer.
But 2010 has been a tough year for many. While many of us are just about getting by, for some the struggle has become almost impossible – and with Christmas approaching, the pinch will be felt even more.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. Each December, with the help of our loyal and big-hearted readers, we can spread a little bit of seasonal cheer.
This week, we are launching our annual Christmas Hamper Appeal. We collect donations from our readers and distribute hampers packed with seasonal goodies. For the pensioners on their own or the single-parent family struggling to shine some light into the winter gloom, it is a very welcome reminder they are not alone.
Each year pubs hold quizzes, traders get together and have a whip-round and sports clubs rustle up a little something for those less fortunate.
This time around, why not get your school or office, your sports or social club involved?
If you are planning a Christmas party, why not enter into the true spirit of the season and ask your friends and colleagues to have a whip-round? Teachers, students, how about raising funds as part of a seasonal project to illustrate what giving should all be about?
We’ll make sure your efforts go to those in Camden who are really in need – but remember, we can only do this with your help.
Your efforts never go unnoticed – last December our readers did so well we were able to donate cash to pensioners’ luncheon clubs across the borough, and help keep the daily costs down of a warm and hearty midday meal to those older folk who so often are on their own.
Please contact the New Journal to let us know if you can help or send donations, no matter how big or small.
