TOUGH action is being taken against dogs in the borough by police and Islington Council.
Police seized four suspected dangerous dogs in Newington Green after a surge in reports of the animals intimidating residents.
Investigations by the Mildmay Safer Neighbourhoods team over a two-week period in September led to two arrests, which resulted in four pit bull-type dogs being seized.
A 34-year-old woman was arrested at a flat in Hatherstage Court on September 20 and two dogs seized with assistance from the North Islington Problem Solving team and North East Dogs Unit.
She has been bailed to return to police on November 1.
A man, 21, was later arrested at a house in Mildmay Park on September 29 for being in possession of a dangerous dog and handling stolen goods. He has been bailed to return to police on November 22.
Pc Audrey Forrester, of the Mildmay Safer Neighbourhoods team, appealed to the public for information about dangerous dogs being kept or bred in the area.
“These operations are part of our determination to robustly crack down on illegal, dangerous dogs in Mildmay ward and protect the public from harm,” she said.
The dogs will remain in custody until police can determine if they are a banned breed.
