Digging for victory! Prize produce on show

PRIZES were dished out for the most ugly vegetable, tallest sunflower, and best scarecrow at Islington’s third horticultural show on Saturday.
More than 250 people turned up to show off their prize produce and sample the best Victoria sponge cake, one of the most popular categories at the weekend’s event. Maypole dancers and a jazz band provided the entertainment at the show, which took place at St Luke’s Parochial Trust, Central Street, Finsbury. Kerry Kirwan, of Islington Council’s Green Living Centre, said: “This is Islington’s third horticultural show. There were lots of very happy gardeners networking and there were different community garden projects showcasing their work.”
