THE wood-panelled music room at Burgh House is one of the most beautiful rooms in England, “and I wish it was mine”, said former BBC producer Piers Plowright.
Mr Plowright was speaking at a packed meeting at the house on Monday which breathed new life and impetus into the relaunch of the Friends of Burgh House.
The group, which supports the work of the Burgh House Trust, has a new chairwoman – former Camden Mayor and Frognal ward councillor Dawn Somper – and an enthusiastic new committee comprising a number of active young people.
They will be planning an exciting range of new events and activities to raise the profile of the Grade I-listed building and museum in New End Square and provide interesting and varied entertainment for its members.
Anyone who would like to join the Friends should ring Burgh House on 020 7431 0144.
Everyone is also encouraged to contact Dawn direct at dawn@somper.co.uk if they have any questions, ideas, or just want to be more involved.
Mr Plowright, who is the Honorary President of the Friends, gave a short address which he entitled “A Tale of Three Houses” – Burgh House, Birt House and My House.
He reminded everyone of the great battle to save the house from ignominy in 1979 that led by the famous Burgh House “Magnificent Seven” and also reminded everyone what a splendid building it is.
