Mopping up after them
Published: 19 August, 2010
• I UNDERSTAND that Veolia took over cleaning the external public areas to give caretakers more time to concentrate on the internal public areas.
The caretaker assigned to our small block only mops inside the intercom door and up the first flight of stairs but does not mop or sweep down the rest of the flights of stairs. He seems to use dirty cold water for the area he does mop.
I appreciate that the caretakers have other duties to undertake but the tenants are paying for a service that is not being done.
In fact, the stairs look so dirty and unsightly most of the time that I have taken it upon myself to both sweep and mop down the remaining flights of stairs to try to keep it looking presentable.
I do this every week.
Maybe it’s time Camden Council gave the job to someone who wants to do the job rather than someone who can’t be bothered.

Caretakers only seem to look at the middle area and never touch corners in lifts and are not able to put pressure on the dirty mop with cold that they used to remove dirt either. The floor is often left wet just to show that someone has been in. Also sometimes you will the brush left out to on a stairwell and that can be there in the same place for days on end.
Why are we paying for supervisor that do not doe their jobs and also a patch manager are they still around or have they just change the title and we are still paying his salary and guarantee pension from our council tax.

Our caretaker seems to suffer from vertigo as even though he does sweep the stairs every so often, he can only manage sweeping up to the first floor of a four story stairwell. Leaving tenants, who are paying far more for his services than ever, having to get out their brooms and do the job instead. As for having them mopped - it seems that once a month if we are lucky is now the norm
