INSPECTORS from Ofsted have praised the strong family ethos at an Islington primary school.
St Jude and St Paul’s Church of England school, in Kingsbury Road, Canonbury, was also found to have “excellent quality care” and enjoyable learning opportunities. Lessons were described as well-planned, with “the large majority good and a few outstanding”.
Staff were singled out as committed to providing pupils with the best possible education.
The report highlighted the varied aspects of school life inspectors heard about – from residential trips through to links with schools in China and Dominica – as being helpful in building pupils’ sense of the world around them.
But the inspectors said maths was the main area where improvement was required.
Ofsted also asked the school to ensure brighter pupils are adequately challenged in lessons.
Headteacher Marjorie Wood welcomed the findings.
She said: “Following on from our positive Ofsted report, we have also just received an ICT mark in recognition of the way we use technology in our teaching, as well as recently gaining a silver arts mark and science mark. Our school is going from strength to strength.”
