TRIBUTE TO ELLEN LUBY: Always a good comrade

Published: 29 July, 2010

• IT was a sad day when we all said goodbye to Ellen Luby.

She will be a missed by her friends and comrades.

We go back many years.

One of our best campaigns was to save the University College Hospital.

We occupied the wards for six weeks.

It ended up with the bailiffs coming in.

Thirteen of us were there.

I was a real patient.

Everyone stood their ground and were all brave.

We ended up in the High Court.

We took our banners on the day.

Michael Mansfield won our case.

It’s a pity there were not more like her.

As a leader, she led us into trouble.

She was honest as the day long.

I would like a plaque next to Don Cook (rent strike protest leader) as a memorial.

Always a good comrade.

monty goldman (ellen luby)

i used to hear that name a lot when i was growing up in fulham (east) in the 1950's. My mother used to teach at Hackney Downs.
Does Mr Goldman remember the Robson family? Is there a connection with the International Brigade? Might be a story there.
