D-Day for Finsbury Health Centre

THE campaign to save Finsbury Health Centre from closure is expecting fireworks on Thursday as health bosses meet to discuss the future of the building.
After months of delay, the NHS Islington board will hear a long-awaited report into the plan to close the Grade I-listed building in Pine Street.
Campaigners fear the centre’s fate was sealed by a remark from NHS Islington chairwoman Paula Khan when she indicated to the council’s health chief Martin Klute last week that the board will press ahead with the closure plan. But the coalition government’s health reforms will strip NHS Islington of its powers and it is believed the closure plan may not be able to go ahead without the approval of doctors and the council.
• The protest is at 8am on July 22 outside NHS Islington’s headquarters in Goswell Road, Angel, before the meeting begins at 9.30am.
