THE summertime smell of bangers and burgers on a warm evening can only mean one thing, but this was a barbecue with a difference at Agincourt House.

The event was organised to give parents of children who attend three special education schools in Camden the opportunity to socialise with each other. There were information stalls run by local organisations Connexions and Parentline, alongside a bouncy castle and paddling pool for youngsters.

Agincourt House, Chalcot school and One One Five on Brecknock Road, are part of a two year government-funded pilot scheme, Achievement For All, which seeks to directly engage parents in their children’s education.

The barbecue is just one of a series of events organised by the schools. There has been a “Healthy eating on a budget” evening, and there will be a Halloween extravaganza in October.

Kim Daley, the pastoral support manager at Chalcot school, praised the event, saying: “We want to give parents the opportunity to come together – we’ve had a really good turn-out.”
