PASSERS by stopped and stared as a burst pipe sent a jet of water high into the summer sky outside an Old Street church yesterday evening (Thursday).
As temperatures soared to a humid 27 degrees, children splashed through the giant fountain outside St Luke’s Church to cool off.
It had been flowing for nearly two hours when Simon Propper, who works in the area, walked by.
He said: “I was just walking past there when I saw an 8ft water geyser had broken out near St Luke’s Church. The kids were playing in it. It looked like New York.”
Thames Water apologised for the inconvenience caused by the leak and said: “We regret the inevitable waste of water caused by the burst pipe and advise everybody to be careful with this precious resource over the summer.”
