GREEN-FINGERED children from Primrose Hill primary school joined journalist Rosie Boycott to open a new allotment garden in Regent’s Park.
Built on the site of a derelict police station, the garden aims to show people with an interest in gardening what they can achieve in a limited space.
The pupils are the first children to grow their own vegetables in the allotment.
It will host training courses provided by Capital Growth, a campaign for new growing spaces in London, and Capel Manor College, which is based in the park.
It will also open to the public during a series of free summer events including “ask the expert” sessions and food growing classes for children.
Ms Boycott, who is chairwoman of London Food, said: “Many people want to start growing food but are unsure about how to get started.”
