SOHO Parish School pupils have battled it out for a world cup trophy of their own in St James’s Park, writes Jamie Welham.

The entire school joined in the football tournament on Thursday, with nine countries including England, Spain, Brazil, South Africa, Japan, Argentina, France and New Zealand represented.

Teacher Katie Price said: “The World Cup has had an impact on the school.

“The children get to learn about the countries in the World Cup and learn how to work in a team.

She added: “Because they are divided into different countries, it gives them a better knowledge of the world as a whole – they are also learning how to cook national dishes of different countries.”

Six year-old pupil Dino said: “I’m having loads of fun. I love playing football. I was playing for Brazil and I scored for my team.”
