‘Great shape!’ Gladys Browne celebrates 100th birthday

MANY of the events children learn about in history books, Gladys Browne lived through.
The pensioner, who celebrated her 100th birthday over the weekend, was already eight by the time the First World War ended and was 29 when war engulfed Europe once again.
Camden born and bred – she was born in Bayham Street and returned to the area to live, aged 23, after a spell in the countryside – Gladys now lives in a residential care home in Ingestre Road, Kentish Town.
In her younger days, she worked for the Express Dairies in Whitehall and was a keen gardener.
Gladys’s party on Saturday was attended by Councillor Jonathan Simpson, the Mayor of Camden.
He said: “What an achievement to reach 100 in such great shape, she’s an example to us all.”
