Distraction burglary: Have you seen this man?

Efit

Tuesday June 8, 2010

CAMDEN police have released an e-fit of a man they want to speak to in connection with a distraction burglary in Belsize Park.

A retired artist, 77, with poor hearing and mobility problems was conned in her flat in Glenmore Road on Monday May 31 at around 6pm.

The suspect knocked on her door in Glenmore Road and asked for water for his Blue Peugeot car. He was asked to wait on the doorstep while the elderly woman fetched a full watering can, but when she returned he barged past her claiming he needed more water.

He searched a chest of drawers once inside the flat before filling a larger watering can. The man, aged between 50 and 55, took the water to his car and then returned the watering can before driving off. It was only once he had gone that the victim realised some of her belongings had been taken.

The victim had seen the man in his car in Haverstock Hill earlier in the day.

The suspect is described as a white male about 5’10.

Detective Constable Annette Corry, from Camden’s Burglary Squad, said: "We appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time, or any one who recognises the artist’s impression of the suspect to contact us. We will treat all information received in confidence."

Anyone with information can call Camden police on 0300 123 1212 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
