Islington sergeant dismissed by Complaints Commission

A POLICE sergeant has been sacked after an investigation into his conduct at an Islington police station.
An Independent Police Complaints Commission statement released this afternoon said: "A Police Officer has been dismissed with immediate effect following an investigation by the MPS Directorate of Professional Standards, managed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission. On 5 August 2009, the Police Sergeant, who was based in Islington, sent several PSCOs home early so that the police building he worked from was empty and then engaged in sexual activity with a female member of police staff. The officer appeared before a disciplinary panel, convened by the MPS, on 1 and 2 June 2010 to face a number of charges including Discreditable Conduct."
IPCC Commissioner Rachel Cerfontyne said: “The MPS misconduct panel found that this woman was vulnerable and that the Police Sergeant engineered a situation whereby he was alone with her in a police building. Behaviour of this kind falls far below the standards expected from a police officer and it will not be tolerated.”
