THE man accused of murdering Polish builder Marcin Bilaszewski near Finsbury Park station, has made a brief Old Bailey appearance.

Alphonse Serges Kruizinga, 33, is alleged to have followed Marcin, 19, and his girlfriend, Anna Betliska, 18, who lived in Hillside Road, South Tottenham, and were out celebrating her birthday on May 8.

Prosecutors said that after Mr Kruizinga abused and punched Ms Betlinska she retaliated by kicking him and Mr Bilaszewski went to her aid. He suffered a fatal stab wound.

Mr Kruizinga, unemployed and of no fixed address, was arrested five days later in Wood Green, allegedly in possession of a knife.

Charges of murder and carrying a weapon were not put to him when he was asked to confirm his identity for the Old Bailey hearing before Judge Paul Worsley, QC.

The judge remanded Mr Kruizinga in custody and directed that he attend a fuller hearing on August 20.
