Feature: The Big Picture - Exhibition - Bridget Riley Paintings and Related Work at The National Gallery until May 22
Published: 24 February, 2011
NO painter, dead or alive has ever made us more aware of our eyes than Bridget Riley,” wrote Robert Melville in the New Statesman in 1971.
Bridget Riley Paintings and Related Work, on show at The National Gallery until May 22, has attracted rave reviews.
Over the past 50 years, in parallel to her work on canvas, Bridget Riley has produced a series of prints that mirror the developments in her current work.
The 90 or so screenprints she has made in this time have allowed successive generations of collectors to acquire original works by her at relatively small cost.
“Sideways”, pictured here, is currently on display at Cross Street Gallery, where a limited number of framed screenprints signed by the artist are available to purchase, priced £1,400.
Cross Street Gallery, founded in 1998 by Mark Wilson, specialises in modern British paintings and original fine art prints.
