Feature: The Big Picture - Exhibition - Renato Mambor: Storytelling at the Italian Cultural Institute until May 15
Published: 14 April, 2011
RENATO Mambor’s exhibition entitled Storytelling opened at the Italian Cultural Institute this week.
Mambor, who was born in Rome in 1936, is one of the most significant contemporary Italian artists. It is through his conceptual art that he has been able to convey the perfect synthesis between the anthropological break of the 1960s, caused by the spreading of the globalisation concept, and the current need to confront himself with the global spirituality.
It is in comparing different cultures that he tries to reach the right pathway towards the creation of a new world: the next world.
He expresses himself through paintings, sculptures, performances and installations. And his stage appraisal comes from the fact that he has been devoted to both conceptual theatre and cinema.
Mambor started collective and solo shows in 1956. He has exhibited around the world, including at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome, as well as at the 45th, 52nd and 54th Venice Biennales.
The exhibition is held under the patronage of Ministero degli Affari Esteri (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and the city of Rome. It is edited by Gianluca Ranzi, with a catalogue by Maretti Editore.
