Feature: The Alma Street Festival Parade on July 11

IT has fast become a summer must-do: NW5’s answer to the Notting Hill Carnival is on this weekend and the event promises to be another stunning day out.
The Alma Street Festival, which takes place on Sunday in the back streets of Kentish Town, includes a float procession on Sunday morning and then sees a plethora of music, stalls and street-based neighbourly fun.
This is the festival’s fifth year, says one of the organisers, Michael Ptootch, and features a parade at the start of the day celebrating Kentish Town.
The festival has a remarkable track record for booking bands just before they hit it really big – and then persuading them to return.
Previous performers include Roots Manuva, North of Ping Pong, Mr Hudson and Rough Science – and Mr Hudson is due to perform again this year.
Other attractions include food, an art show and the Dig It Sound System – a home-built, scrap wood bicycle-pulled rig for spinning tunes and hosting a karaoke session.
Michael added: “It has become a little bigger each year, and so we have given it a little more space.
“It is full of neighbours and nice people. So many people like to get involved.”
• The Alma Street Festival parade starts at 11.15am on Sunday in Inkerman Road and the street festival lasts until 7pm.
