Feature: Preview - Cloud Dance Festival: Firefly at Pleasance Theatre from July 22-24
THE Pleasance Theatre plays host to the fifth annual Cloud Dance Festival – Firefly – with another eclectic bill.
Presenting three showcases a year for the contemporary dance industry, this independent festival remains admirably strong despite stretched resources. An emerging crop of dancers will flood the theatre with more than 20 companies performing over the course of three nights.
Headlining this year’s programme is a new work by Royal Ballet soloist and choreographer Kristen McNally. Her indie ballet solo Don’t Hate The Player, Blame The Game is performed by Tommy Franzén – the Swedish hip hop dancer who was a runner-up on the BBC1 show So You Think You Can Dance.
Further highlights include contemporary ballets from Richard Bermange, Edd Mitton, Exquisite Corpse Dance Theatre and Diciembre Dance Group.
• Cloud Dance Festival: Firefly is at the Pleasance Theatre, Carpenters Mews, North Road, Islington N7, from July 22-24, 7.30pm, £10, 020 7609 1800, www. pleasance.co.uk/
