Education Feature: Maria Fidelis Convent School FCJ - New head at Catholic school for girls

THE new term has brought the start of a new era at the oldest Catholic girls’ school in London – Maria Fidelis Convent School FCJ.
Helen Gill has begun work as the new headteacher, taking over from Pauline Williams, who retired at the end of the summer term.
Mrs Gill was formerly the deputy headteacher in charge of the lower school.
Maria Fidelis is a prestigious 11-19 Catholic secondary school for girls with a mixed sixth form.
The school achieved excellent GCSE examination results this year with 72 per cent of Year 11 students achieving 5 or more A*-C Grades, 69 per cent in English and 66 per cent in Maths; 25 per cent of students achieved 3 or more A/A* Grades.
Mrs Gill said: “I would like to thank all the staff and students for their hard work and particularly the parents and carers; without your support we could not be successful.
“Students have made an excellent start to the year with exemplary standards of uniform and behaviour.
“We do all we can to ensure that our students aspire to academic excellence while growing into mature and responsible adults, capable of making a positive contribution to their communities. May God bless you and your families as we start this new school year together.”
The school prides itself on working closely with parents to ensure students achieve their full academic potential and are supported and happy.
The Diocese of Westminster rated the Catholic life of Maria Fidelis as outstanding: “they do all they can to support students in the development of their faith”.
The school is fortunate to have the services of Chaplain Fr Tim Gardner OP, who provides regular opportunities for students to attend Mass and confession.
