Published: 6 October, 2011

CHANNING School, founded in 1885, occupies a unique position in Highgate Village offering the highest standards of academic and cultural education, with small classes, specialised teaching and a wide range of exciting and innovative extra-curricular activities for girls from 4-18.

Every girl is given a first-class academic education, the confidence and skills she will need in life and in a school where she will be known, and have her own talents recognised and nurtured.

Channing boasts a formidable Art department, with the finest views across the London skyline.

Many of the girls go on to Art Foundation courses to pursue further their artistic talents.

Channing’s Drama department is housed in their recently redeveloped Founders’ Hall, a wonderful performance area with a sprung floor, and state-of-the-art lighting and sound facilities, all of which enhance the frequent productions held.

The Sports department has blossomed in recent years and girls play a vast range of sport, including hockey, tennis and swimming.

There is also a new multi-gym and seven tennis courts on the school grounds, with floodlights for Winter matches.

Music is an integral part of the school curriculum, both at the junior and senior school.

It plays a major part within the school community, offering scholarships for the gifted and talented in this subject.

Also available are chamber choirs, a jazz band, brass ensemble, percussion ensembles, cello club, chamber and symphony orchestras, with frequent concerts both inside and outside the school.

Girls from Year 9 and above may take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and undertake community service.

Channing School offers bursaries and scholarships and encourage applications from girls from all faiths.
