Education Feature: St Charles Catholic Sixth Form College - Value-added analysis from start to finish

Published: 6 October, 2011

STUDENTS and their families often look to sixth form colleges for choice and success on A-level courses, and that is certainly the case at St Charles where 97 per cent of A-level entries resulted in pass grades.

St Charles College is proud to have its old students studying at Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, UCL and other leading universities across the country.

The college scrutinises it’s A-level outcomes through value-added analysis, which is a way of comparing the grades students achieve at the end of their careers with their qualifications when they joined from school.

By those measures St Charles has consistently been ranked in the top 5 per cent of post-16 institutions across the country measured both by the nationally accepted ALPS and ALIS value-added systems.

By the government’s own value-added measure, the CVA, St Charles is the highest performing sixth form college in London.

Almost 35 per cent of students at St Charles are on vocational programmes at Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced levels.

Programmes that focus on applied knowledge and the world of work often draw out talents and engagement in students that the mainstream curriculum does not reach. Pass rates on these courses range from 100 per cent at Advanced level to 93 per cent at Foundation and Intermediate level.

St Charles College has an extensive range of extra-curricular activities for students to get involved with.

The college is blessed with an excellent learning environment.

Spacious classrooms, and a 2:1 student to computer ratio, have been recently enhanced with a new £6million building incorporating a new sports hall, industry standard fitness suite, and state-of-the-art IT classrooms.

Proud to be Catholic college, but welcoming to students from any faith background, or none, who wish to study and develop in an explicitly Christian environment.
