DRAG DIVAS
The Arts Theatre
SOME love a queen, some don’t, and others are just curious. As long as you don’t fall into the second category you’ll love this, with a red glitzy capital ‘L’.
If you walk into Drag Divas wanting a good time, you can certainly have one.
The first act opens with red smoke, red glitter, red sequined dresses, and is beautifully and unashamedly OTT.
The divas aren’t a letdown: at times they’re excellent, and possibly more entertaining than the real thing.
It’s hard to live up to Amy Winehouse, but Leo Loren manages it incredibly well and with passion.
These queens are glam from head to toe, but there’s nothing manufactured about this, it feels like watching a party that wasn’t planned – so much better than the organised version.
The drag version of Kate Bush shone spectacularly among a host of classic divas from Aretha Franklin and Etta James to Tina Turner and Lady Gaga.
The drag version of the Spice Girls in their heyday is a highlight for any former Spice fan – watching “Posh” pout her way through the performance isn’t overdone, it’s plain funny.
If you’re a serious sort, maybe Drag Divas is a bit too raucous, a bit too much fun – after all, it doesn’t take itself seriously at all.
If you’re not, it’s a night out you must have, the crowd’s mixed – couples, families and friends – and you can’t fail to be amused.
