THE young and highly regarded Will Collier Septet is making its debut at The Oxford, Kentish Town Road, on Monday evening.

It traces its origins back six years to the time in Haringey when double bass player Will (pictured) was trying out pieces for trumpet, trombone, tenor sax and drums – and the band has now expanded to include alto sax and piano.

His style has evolved to incorporate contrapuntal horn writing textures, counterpoint, odd time signatures and sometimes modern dance andfolk-type melodic tunes.

Reports indicate the band has developed their tight, original ‘feel’ into a dynamic septet playing some fine original material with punch horn riffs, effective build-ups, sometimes sounding like a much larger band.
