Amjad Ali-Khan to premiere his latest work for sarod at the Wigmore Hall

Traditionally, the Wigmore Hall has been renowned as the world’s leading recital venue specialising in hosting performances of chamber music, notably song, piano and instrumental music.
But “Wiggers,” as it’s affectionally known, has been diversifying its programming in recent years, showcasing the best in classical Indian music and jazz alongside other musical genre.
Tomorrow (Friday) evening is a case in point.
Two concerts given by outstanding Indian musicians are being followed by Kentish Town jazz pianist Dorian Ford playing past midnight.
First up at 7.30pm are accomplished sitar players Sunil Saxena and Smita Nagdev joined later by vocalist Sunanda Sharma singing pieces in the Hindustani tradition of romantic and devotional music.
Then, at 10pm, renowned sarod player Amjad Ali Khan is giving the world premiere of his latest work for sarod and an ensemble of western classical instruments, played on this occasion by the Britten Sinfonia.
At 11.15pm, Kentish Town jazz pianist Dorian Ford is leading his trio in renderings of classic jazz numbers by Gill Evans.
On Monday lunchtime, Dorian Ford is also playing at Neal’s Yard, Covent Garden.
