The excellent London Handel Festival is getting under way with a four-week programme of recitals, concerts and opera performances put together by musical director Laurence Cummings.

Most events are being held at St George’s in Hanover Square, Mayfair, amidst the array of stacked pipes for the new organ being installed in the church.

Events are also being held at nearby Grosvenor Chapel, South Audley Street; Conway Hall off Holborn; and the Royal College of Music, Prince Consort Road, just along the road from the Royal Albert Hall.

Opening recital tomorrow (Friday) evening, is being given by delectable young soprano Ruby Hughes – she’s singing music from the time of Handel.

On Wednesday evening, the prize-winning Croatian  choir Collegium Floridum is singing sacred and secular Croatian music at Conway Hall.

Later this month, there’s a real treat for Handel and early music enthusiasts when his opera Richard the First is given four performances at the Royal College Music, starting on March.
