SOME fine jazz musicians are playing in the inaugural Highgate Jazz with Soul Festival over this weekend at The Old Crown on Highgate Hill.
The festival has been arranged by tenor saxophonist Brandon Allen, a welcome import from Australia 11 years ago.
Now a Highgate resident, he hosts a regular jazz and jam gig on Monday evenings at the pub.
“The aim of the festival is to feature jazz artists who play with passion and emotion,” he says. “All the musicians are friends, or people I’ve played with. Each evening, we’ll finish up with a jam session.”
Headliners include Liane Carroll, Pete King Quartet and the Tim Lapthorn Trio playing with the Navarra String Quartet.
Other artists include Alison Neale, Leon Greening, Steve Fishwick, Ian Thomas, Steve Melling, Alex Garnett and Quentin Collins.
