Wild Mercury Sound look like lovely young men. Not one has reached the age of 20 yet. Frontman Benji Compston has that translucent look that gives the impression he’d blow away at the flutter of a butterfly’s wings. All the more reason why the strength he shows in the foreboding, obsessive single Miss Frost and the formidable guitarism from his bandmates is so striking. Stark, grown-up, and memorable – give them a chance when they play Barfly (Oct 6).
