APPARENTLY ex-Atomic Kitten Liz McClarnon is taking a petition to Downing Street to campaign for schools to establish Glee clubs – in celebration of the release of Glee  Season Two DVD. While I’m all for the expansion of musical education at schools, can you imagine Disney-faced kids, belting out shiny-toothed show tunes at assembly halls across Camden?

• Now here’s the kind of music class I recommend... The Charlatans’ drummer Jon Brookes – who is back on his feet less than a year after he almost died from a brain tumour – is holding a drumming masterclass at Camden Music School on Saturday. More info from Planet Drum on 020 7428 9012 or email info@theplanetdrum.co.uk

• Excellent news for those reluctant to cut the night short after a boozy night out at The Wheelbarrow – the Camden High Street venue has won a licence extension so will be open until 3am Fridays to Sundays. And don’t forget to check out former Irrepressibles member Anja McCloskey on Sept 27. Her new single “And Her Head” is out now.

• For something a little harder, vintage metal heads Rogue Male mark their new line-up and single Liar with a gig at The Purple Turtle on Sept 29. The band, which formed in 1983 and have played alongside Motorhead, have made the track available free from their website www.rm2kmusic.com

• Something a little more eclectic? The Long Notes are heading to The Underworld with their world, roots and Celtic arrangements of Irish, Scottish, French-Canadian, Galician, Quebecois and Old-Timey tunes. The band, which includes Scottish fiddler Jamie Smith (Beneche), Irish born accordionist Colette O'Leary (Bumblebees), London-Irish banjo/mandolin player Brian Kelly (Shane McGowan and The Popes) and English born Alex Percy, all met playing sessions in Camden.
