Rock and Pop: Latest News > July 14

QUEUES of people desperate to cram into Pete Doherty’s pre-curfew appearance at The Blues Kitchen, lined up along Camden High Street on Saturday. And we hear one opportunist made a spirited attempt to snatch Doherty’s guitar – he didn’t get too far as the collectable instrument was soon recovered by a bouncer in the street. Photographic evidence on Twitter thanks to @danocdj.

• Sad to hear of the loss of Motorhead guitarist, Wurzel.    A familiar face in Islington, who kept in touch with his rock ’n’ roll roots, sharing a pint with Doherty and the like, he was just as likely to be spotted with a smile on his face at community events.

• Camden Barfly is looking for new bands. Contact @marteenmackay on Twitter with demos.

• Chad Vigano, Jaycee Fraser, House Party Massacre, Feen, Daniel Spiller & The Broken Record Project and DJ Goodstuff play The Fiddlers Elbow on Sunday (July 17), for charity GET OUT OF BED!, supporting people with Binge Eating Disorder (BED). It starts at 4pm.

• Southend-on-Sea’s ska and reggae contingent, Goldmaster Allstars, have supported The Pioneers, Dave Barker and Alton Ellis. See them at The Dublin Castle on Sunday or the third Sunday in August and September.

• Smouldering jazz and blues singer Florence Joelle (also a blues harpist) landed in Camden from Paris, aged 18, nearly 20 years ago. She has since worked in Camden Market, and played all over the borough along with guitarist Huck Whitney, drummer Arthur Lager (formally of Gallon Drunk), and bassist Chris Campion. Album Kiss of Fire is out Monday.
