IT’S a shame Hothouse Flowers and Jimmy Cliff were on so early at Feis on Sunday. We were still recovering from Saturday’s mudfest so turned up late afternoon to find we’d missed the chance to compare both their versions of I Can See Clearly Now. One of the most striking elements of Feis was Mean Fiddler founder and Fleadh/Feis architect Vince Power’s omnipresence. He was a master in making his acts feel special, turning up in the photo pit for each set, you could see him sizing them up and basking in the glory. Apparently Ronnie Wood was watching Bob Dylan from the side of the stage, wonder what they did after...
• Hands up who didn’t get a ticket to Glastonbury, or who has decided Glasto telly, sofa, slippers and a glass of wine is much more appealing than the real thing. If you’re part of the former group, here are some alternatives to ease the pain; to the latter, here are some incentives to get you out of the house:
The Wheelbarrow is holding a three-day Not Going to Glastonbury Party starting tonight (Thurs) with The Musical Merry Go Round. Bring your instruments and join in. Friday’s got Joe Cave (acoustic), indie with Tigercats and Bartleberry Logan DJ. It ends on Saturday with Crowns, comic songs from Andy and the Prostitutes, rockabilly from Burning Condos and Steve Strange DJs. As usual with The Wheelbarrow, it’s all free.
If you live in Chalk Farm and can’t bring yourself to walk all that way down Camden High Street go and see the solar rock of Feral Sun. They play The Fiddlers Elbow on Friday night.
And finally, Alice Cooper plays the 100 Club on Sunday, a rare chance to see him up close.
