Rock and Pop: The Fall @Koko

An efficient two-hour show and not a single drop of perspiration – Fall frontman Mark E. Smith is an alien.

He has fathered many descendants, including support act, the Gang of Four-inspired Scumbag Philosopher.

Sadly, opening for The Fall didn’t do them justice.

Smith, with his characteristic nonchalant attitude, was impervious to the great passion he engendered in a crowd composed of fans who know The Fall’s discography like the back of their hands. He roared through two microphones like a force of nature with his almost rap-esque mythical flow gliding over the brilliant instrumentals.

The most striking thing was the quality of his voice. John Peel once said about the band: “They are always different, they are always the same.”

Boy, was he right!
