Rock and Pop: Preview - iTunes Festival

THERE are still 14 days left of the month of July for the guys behind the iTunes Festival to fill – and from what we’ve seen so far there’s no limit to the acts the big old Apple corporation is willing to rope in.

This year, Paul Simon, Manic Street Preachers, Beady Eye, Foo Fighters and Linkin Park are among the line-up. Each of them, barring Beady Eye, (calm down, Liam, you still need to prove yourself!) have been considered right up there in their particular genre at one time or another.

Also confirmed to play are Glasvegas, The Wanted, Adele, The Script, White Lies, Jessie J, Duran Duran, Rumer, Mogwai, Noah and the Whale, Magnetic Man and Chase & Status.

So are the iTunes people holding back the big names (how do you beat godlike genius Dave Grohl?) or have they given us their best and are waiting to fill the final slots with promising newcomers and take-it-or-leave-it popstars?

You’ve got a taste of their style, who do you think will be in there this year?

iTunes are inviting suggestions via twitter, just state your desired act and include the #itunes hashtag. I’m asking for The Stone Roses (time to bring those reunion rumours to fruition).

Don’t forget all 31 Roundhouse gigs, one for every day of July, are totally and unapologetically free – that is, if you are lucky to be pulled out in the iTunes lotto.

Hopefuls just need to visit the iTunes festival website www.itunesfestival.com, or download the app – yes there truly is an app for everything, – select the gig you desire, submit your details to Apple if you dare, and keep your fingers crossed that you’re chosen.

If you go by previous years, there’s usually a lovely lanyard handed out on the day containing a unique code to access a whole bunch of downloads linked to the festival.

This is one event right on our doorstep, not to be forgotten.

We’re still marvelling over Oasis’s rowdy night, being awestruck by Glasvegas, Jamie T’s youthful exuberance, and N-Dubz attracting knife arches quite possibly for the first time ever at The Roundhouse.

Did the organisers really think armed gangstas hide N-Dublet T-shirts under their hoodies and hum Playing with Fire in their sleep?

And no doubt we’ll be there again this year to tweet all the gossip.
