I WOULD like to thank the gods of music journalism who ensured I escaped unscathed from the massive Odd Future-incited crowd surge during the Camden Crawl.

While I was knocked to the ground, left to scrabble under a stampede of trainers and flip-flops to try to rescue my camera, I somehow managed to avoid the hysterical thudding feet crashing about my head. Both I and the camera survived.

I suspect those same gods delayed me getting to Odd Future’s set to save me from the abuse they hurled at the pit photographers.

The rap collective achieved the notoriety they craved, but give them a few years and they won’t feel quite as brave when squaring up to the Crawl’s solid bouncers.

As it was, the crafty rappers stirred up anarchy, wound up security, then disappeared leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

In other Crawl news, I’m sure I spotted Miles Kane’s roadie putting out a steaming pint glass of cinnamon tea onstage. It looked like lager to the naked eye but smelled pretty herbal to us photographers – worried for your rock ‘n’ roll persona, Miles?

Mayor of Camden Jonathan Simpson, surely the coolest mayor on this isle, DJ’d the Crawl after-party at The Electric Ballroom. First record? LCD Soundsystem.

l While the Mayor’s enjoying the last few days of his reign, he’s planning to go out in style with the aptly labelled Mayorfest, a night of DJs, dancing and music at Camden Barfly on Saturday (May 7) featuring Bob Stanley, Martin Green, Ed Wilder and The Dreambears.

l Remember the Spin Doctors? At one point in our lives, it was impossible to escape from single Two Princes. It’s been 20 years since they released hit album Pocket Full of Kryptonite, and to celebrate, they’re playing the entire album in sequence at the Jazz Cafe (May 15). But would you really notice if it wasn’t in sequence?
